enderdog Encounters Speed Bump On Road to 8th Championship Victory, MacTHW Wins at Torrey Pines
by MacTHW
MacTHW’s steady pace puts an end to enderdog’s championship winning streak, as the rookie has to settle for a tie for second with the Golfsmack Open defender, binkdog. However, the winning streak for Team binkerton continues, despite rumors of a pending team split. enderdog grabs another course record and binkdog scores a win. Meanwhile, the Skins leaderboard gets shaken up, MacTHW falls behind. It was a busy and exciting tournament weekend with lots of ground to cover so enjoy your extra verbose headlines…
A confident enderdog, who expected to waltz in and breeze through to another tournament victory, suffers a setback early during the first round as he finds himself unprepared to deal with battery problems. Never having been in a situation where he may have played himself out of a tournament so early on, enderdog goes on a seventeen hole pouting spree, even though said situation was not nearly as bad as me made it not sound by going on mute. Meanwhile, binkdog mounts a great defense of his title, only falling back one stroke to MacTHW during round one, where admittedly, MacTHW made some lucky putts.
Round 1:
enderdog gets himself together and rejoins the group on Teamspeak. He rebounds during round two, taking back a stroke from MacTHW. In bizarro-world, B-Dub runs into trouble along the front nine, shooting an unexpected 44. binkdog gives up four strokes as his defense falters slightly on the very tough greens at Torrey Pines.
Round 2:
With the first two rounds of the Golfsmack Open in the bag, the golfing quintet head to everyone’s favorite course, TPC Scottsdale, where Team Awesome attempts to take advantage of a dejected enderdog in their rivalry with Team binkerton. MacTHW makes a mad dash for the record, besting the rookie by a stroke at the turn. With vengeance on the mind, enderdog goes on a bird hunting expedition along the back nine. He proves to be successful and stages a hostile takeover in what may have been one of the most unheralded course record setting victories at THW Golf. Congratulations to enderdog on becoming the new Course Pro at TPC Scottsdale. MacTHW vows to be back.
TPC Scottsdale:
In the team game, the rounds stays in balance along the front but Team binkerton scores successive wins along the back, eventually winning the round with 4UP.
Having just lost a course to the rookie, MacTHW suggests a trip to Sheshan in hopes of staging a coup of his own. It turns out to be an ill-fated trip, as MacTHW lands himself in the caboose while enderdog strolls to victory.
Sheshan:
Ash takes off for the evening, so it’s up to Team BigMac to take on Team binkerton, who’s success is allegedly breaking up the team from the inside. Nonetheless, the binkerton boys make quick work of Team BigMac with a decisive 4UP victory.
One more round for friday evening as the quartet head to TPC Sawgrass. MacTHW leads at the turn but binkdog’s putter heats up along the back nine, leading him to victory on this last round of Friday evening. Score a .1 for the binkdog. In an attempted interview after the round, all the Texan could say was “Daggum, I win, I win, I win!”.
TPC Sawgrass:
In the team effort, Team binkerton, despite the apparent rift between it’s members, delivers yet another defeat to Team BigMac, winning the round at 2UP.
Saturday brings us to the two final rounds of the Golfsmack Open.
enderdog proclaims it to be moving day, but MacTHW is one step ahead of the enderdog, flattening all four tires on the moving van and filling it’s gas tank with sugar.
Round three starts off with all five golfers within a few strokes of one another. While Ash, B-dub and enderdog run into the Torrey Pines buzzsaw, binkdog and MacTHW look to take the lead. binkdog extends his lead over enderdog by four and MacTHW increases his lead on the rookie by six. binkdog moves into second place and sets his sights upon MacTHW.
Round 3:
Somehow MacTHW still manages to hold the lead going into the fourth round at Torrey Pines. The course has been grueling so far, catching golfers off guard and chewing them up. A small lead can easily be squandered on a single hole. binkdog and enderdog are nipping at MacTHW’s heels but MacTHW manages to avoid lurking bogies and stays the course with par, refusing to give up any strokes to his pursuers. MacTHW starts to fade along the back but not enough to give up the lead. binkdog and enderdog find themselves tied for second, with B-dub taking fourth and Ash taking fifth place.
Round 4:
The final Golfsmack Open standings are:
Torrey Pines | Course PAR: 72 | Tournament PAR: 288 | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
POS | Player | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 | THRU | TOTAL | SCORE |
1 | MacTHW | 72 | 71 | 70 | 74 | 72 | 287 | -1 |
T2 | binkdog | 73 | 75 | 72 | 75 | 72 | 295 | +7 |
T2 | enderdog | 77 | 70 | 76 | 72 | 72 | 295 | +7 |
4 | B-Dub | 71 | 80 | 76 | 72 | 72 | 299 | +22 |
5 | Ash | 94 | 93 | 88 | 89 | 72 | 364 | +76 |
MacTHW suggests a trip to sunny TPC Scottsdale to relax after a very tough tournament. After all, it’s THW Golf’s favorite course these days. Also, Team Awesome tests to see if the glue that holds Team binkerton is still intact. B-dub goes low and makes an assault on the course record. enderdog tries to keep up, but it’s too much for the rookie, who has to settle for a second place tie with binkdog. Ash turns in a century.
TPC Scottsdale:
Team Awesome finds the bond between team binkerton is still holding, although rumors suggest the rift is growing. Team binkerton racks up another win, this one at 4UP.
Ash takes a leave for the evening and the remaining four golfers make another attempt at TPC Scottsdale. This time, enderdog goes on the offensive, firing off a 66, keeping him two strokes ahead of MacTHW, who was also on a record-seeking mission.
TPC Scottsdale:
Team BigMac takes on Team binkerton and finally score a 2UP win against the dominating binkdog and enderdog team machine. Hopefully this is not the straw that breaks up the two ‘dogs.
Thanks to everyone who turned out for this weekend’s activities. In a rare turn of events, the course record was NOT broken throughout the tournament. In fact, it did not even appear to be in danger of being broken. This speaks for the toughness of Torrey Pines. Next weekend is the Cappuccino Cup at none other than TPC Scottsdale. Although the course record was just taken by enderdog, knowing him, he’s already furiously practicing and looking to set an even lower record.
Hope to see everyone next weekend.
