Skins - New Game Format at THW Golf

We’ve decided to add a new game flavor this year to THW Golf. A while back, binkdog suggested we try playing a different scoring system, known as Skins, to keep gameplay interesting. We’ve tested it out the last few weeks and have decided to add it to our scoring routine.
With Skins scoring, each hole is worth a “skin”. The player who scores lowest on the hole, wins the skin for that hole. If two or more players tie for the lowest score, then the skin carries over to the next hole and whoever wins that hole gets both skins, or if another tie happens, both skins carry to the next hole and so on until someone finally wins a hole outright. There are different rules for what happens to unclaimed skins at the end of the game, meaning skins have carried over to the 18th hole and then no one wins the 18th hole. Here at THW Golf we’ve decided that those skins just go unclaimed, into the bit-bucket.
Obviously, we can keep a Skins leaderboard, but who knows, maybe we can figure out something for players to spend their skins on. That part remains to be seen. But for now, we are enjoying competing for skins, in addition to our normal Course Pro records, lowest scores, highest point rankings, team rankings, etc.
Skins can now be seen on the main Stats page.

The Plot Thickens

I’ve been keeping an ear open for news about the release of Tiger Woods 2013. Interested, mainly, because so far, EA has made no mention whatsoever of a Wii version.
Nintendo has announced that their new console, the Wii-U, should hit the US sometime in the middle of 2012, which doesn’t quite co-incide with EA’s planned release of Tiger Woods in March. Understandably, EA can’t announce the availability of a game for a platform that doesn’t exist yet…if EA has indeed written the new Tiger Woods for the new Wii-U console and not the Wii. Since the Wii-U is supposed to be backwards compatible with the Wii, it seems it would behoove EA to write one last version of Tiger Woods for the older Wii, albeit, the graphics would suck when compared the newer Wii-U (which is also allegedly supposed to be HD).
Last week, I saw that amazon.com was taking pre-orders for Tiger Woods 2013. Only available for the Xbox and PS3. No Wii version.
Today, when going back to check the status I find that the pre-order has been removed from amazon.com AND the EA Sport Tiger Woods web site no longer references 2013 at all, instead redirecting you to a Tiger Woods 2012 page (which, when I viewed it, appeared to have some of it’s CSS code missing).
So…Will there be a Wii version of Tiger 2013? Will the Xbox and PS3 versions be released first, with the Wii(?U) version following later in the year?
That may not be a bad idea, as I have wanted to see how well Tiger Woods 2013 works with the Kinect. I have tried the PS3 version, using the MOVE, and it sucks. Badly. I wouldn’t mind giving the Xbox version a twirl.

Punchshot Porter

This year’s THW beer was named Punchshot Porter and was brewed by our very own brewmaster, Ash, with a little help from the Assistant Brewmaster, MacTHW.

About THW Golf
THW Golf is a private online golf league that plays Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Wii. Membership is not open to the public and one must be invited by a current member in order to join. THW Golf was formed during the Tiger Woods 2010 season and provides for a family-friendly environment where known friends can get together and compete in challenging and cheat-free golf sessions. We think that not opening ourselves to the trolls and cheaters and hackers of the greater World Wide Web is key to maintaining that environment.
