SEVEN

by MacTHW

enderdog takes a buzzsaw and rips his way through the THW Via Cup at Royal Melbourne. Reminiscent of the THW Battle Royale, enderdog opens an early lead and keeps an eye on the competition through the rear view mirror, although none are closer than they appear. Outside of the tournament, Team Awesome takes on Team binkerton in some team match play. These are your headlines for the THW Via Cup tournament weekend.

Four golfers showed up to compete in the THW Via Cup. enderdog opens an early lead during round one. He leads by three at the turn and widens the lead by another four on the back. The rest of the pack is bunched together with only four strokes separating second and four place.

enderdog cools off a bit during round two but refuses to cede any ground to the competition. binkdog manages to tie the rookie for first with MacTHW falling back another stroke and Ash feels the chill as well, falling back six strokes.

MacTHW looks to gain back some strokes on enderdog on Saturday during round three. Leading by one at the turns, things are looking good but enderdog’s putter heats up and puts a few circles on the scorecard. Tweet. Tweet. Tweet. enderdog extends his lead another two strokes. binkdog is nipping on MacTHW’s heels but MacTHW edges out the old dog by one. Unfortunately, Ash bogies himself out of competition.

Round four turns out to be moving day. binkdog loads up his U-Haul and evicts MacTHW from second place as MacTHW proceeds to implode. Hitting erratic drives, MacTHW is unable to retain his grip on second place as binkdog plays it cool and surpasses MacTHW on the back. Meanwhile, ender goes on another circle bender, shooting double thirty-twos, earning the rookie his seventh tournament victory, and the second with such authority.

The ability to create an opening and then not giving back a single stroke throughout the entire tournament is enderdog’s recipe for success. Well played, ender-rookie. Congratulations on yet another tournament win, now becoming the player with most championships held. But remember, being the King of the Hill brings along the pressure of staying on top.

The final standings are:

Royal Melbourne | Course PAR: 72 | Tournament PAR: 288

3MacTHW7171707672288PAR
4AshTHW7576839072324+36

To wind down from the pressures of tournament play, the golfers play a few relaxing rounds of single and team games.

First up, Torrey Pines. In individual competition, enderdog fares much worse on the non-practiced holes at Torrey Pines. Although scores were at higher than par, enderdog manages a one stroke victory over MacTHW.

Torrey Pines

All the action happened during the team game. Team binkerton initially went 3UP early on, but Team Awesome manages to bring the game back to AS, and then keep going to bring it to 2UP, advantage Team Awesome. Then, Team binkerton claws their way back to AS on the 17th. Team binkerton then delivers the final blow, edging out Team Awesome with birdie for the win on the 18th.

Team Awesome wants another team game so off to TPC Sawgrass they go. With enderdog going low on the front nine, he helps Team binkerton make easy work of Team Awesome. Shooting a 30 on the front and a 33 on the back, not only makes easy work of the team game but earn the rookie a new record at TPC Sawgrass. Team binkerton defeats Team Awesome at 7UP.

TPC Sawgrass

enderdog and MacTHW then go head-to-head at Whistling Straits. MacTHW manages to defeat the rookie by four strokes.

Whistling Straits

On Saturday, binkdog offers up Celtic Manor for the individual effort and Team binkerton once again battles Team Awesome. In the individual effort, enderdog goes looking for another course record. Unfortunately, he falls short and binkdog manages to edge out the younger dog by one stroke.

Celtic Manor

Team binkerton leads by the turn and Team Awesome runs out of real estate to make a comeback. Team binkerton takes the team effort at 4UP.

The crew heads to Turnberry and enderdog goes low while everyone else goes high. enderdog takes the round with an eight stroke advantage. Thanks to the array of circles on Team binkerton’s scorecard, they send Team Awesome to defeat, going 7UP.

Turnberry

MacTHW tries to work the kinks out of his still highly out-of-whack drives, but a game with enderdog at Whistling Straits is not the remedy. enderdog handily defeats MacTHW at Whistling Straits.

While ender’s Away, the THW Veterans Will Play

by MacTHW

While enderdog is away enjoying his ender-cation, binkdog looks to make a move up the leaderboard. Ash makes an attempt to get out of the caboose but it keeps pulling him back in. Meanwhile, MacTHW wanders around aimlessly looking for a mis-placed swing. BWP threatens to join the party but ends up over-sleeping so it’s just the three veteran THW players on the virtual links this weekend. Stand by…these are your weekend headlines.

The golfing trio kicks off Friday evening with a THW VIA Cup preview round at Royal Melbourne. It’s a tricky course but a fresh batch of the VIA Banana Buzzsaw help propel MacTHW to a three stroke victory, despite both Ash and binkdog delivering birdies on the last four holes of the round.

Royal Melbourne

Next up, The Greenbrier. While Ash and binkdog are at par, or worse, by the turn, MacTHW keeps it at par or better. MacTHW attempts a run at the record but stalls along the back, only able to muster a tie with the current record…held by MacTHW.

The Greenbrier

Friday’s last round would be played at Harbour Town, where none of the players are a threat to the course record…not even remotely threatening. MacTHW wins the round, a sweep for the evening. After Harbour Town dishes out the pain, the trio decide to call it a night and re-group for tomorrow’s matches.

Harbour Town

Saturday sees a more refreshed Ash and binkdog stepping up to the tee box. First up, another crack at Royal Melbourne. Ash leads the trio at the turn but an unfortunate quad-bogey on the 12th sends him back tot he caboose. MacTHW barely edges out binkdog for the win, at one over par 73.

Royal Melbourne

The call of course records bring the group to TPC Sawgrass as they attack the record held by BWP. The record appears to be safe as the group heads into the back nine. binkdog manages to keep it together, avoids the binkdog-choke and ekes out a one stroke victory for his first win of the weekend.

TPC Sawgrass

Gluttons for punishment or eager to practice, the three golfers return to Royal Melbourne. MacTHW’s driver turns cold…and red. binkdog is focused on obtaining another win and hands out a beatdown. His 64 would win the round and comes close to the course record 61.

Royal Melbourne

Next up, the group heads to St. Andrew, where Ash leads the group until getting caught up in a grinding buzzsaw on the par 4 12th. MacTHW’s swing is the exact opposite of “on fire”, allowing binkdog to sneak in for yet another victory this evening, this being his third.

St. Andrews

After nearly calling it a night, binkdog offers a now sulking and nearly crying MacTHW another shot at Royal Melbourne. Both golfers slug it out but end up tied at 34 at the turn. A battery malfunction strikes binkdog on the 17th, resulting in bogey for the ‘dog. MacTHW gains another stroke with Eagle on the 18th, securing victory for the round. binkdog wants a re-match, given the dodgy results due to low batteries.

Royal Melbourne

A no longer sulking MacTHW agrees to one more round…at Royal Melbourne. binkdog starts strong, leading at the turn. A double-bogey on the par 5 15th take the wind out of his sails as MacTHW once again beats binkdog to the finish line by one stroke.

Royal Melbourne

All in all, a nice relaxing pre-tournament weekend. One can only wonder if enderdog is furiously practicing Royal Melbourne, looking to increase his championship count by one. Hope to see everyone on the links next weekend.

IN OTHER NEWS…
Congratulations are in order for binkdog, who took part in the IWGC President’s Cup this weekend. He won his match against FoX and scored a point for Team USA. Good game and way to represent THW Golf, binkdog!

The EnderTerror Continues His Walk Down the Warpath

by MacTHW

enderdog’s reign of terror continued this tournament weekend, dropping birdies like cluster bombs and destroying any player that dared stand between him and victory at the THW World Championship. MacTHW hung in there but a missed par on the 6th, a botched par attempt on the 10th and a bungled 17th during the final round let enderdog stroll to a course-record setting World Championship victory at Sheshan GC. To round out the weekend, enderdog also helps Team binkerton deliver yet another loss to the boys of Team Awesome. These are your headlines for the THW Golfing weekend.

Four fresh and eager golfers are raring to hit the links Friday evening for the first round of the THW World Championship at Royal Melbourne. MacTHW and enderdog go head-to-head and find themselves tied, both scoring par at the turn. Neither golfer gains the upper hand and both players finish the first round at 72.

Round two finds binkdog in the deep rough and in deep trouble falling back to last place by the turn. enderdog, carding only one bogey for the entire round, narrowly defeats MacTHW by two strokes, giving him a slight lead going into the third round and setting a new course record at Sheshan.

Round three finds binkdog proclaiming it’s “Moving Day”. Unfortunately, the moving is done by MacTHW as he capitalizes on enderdog’s 73 and leads after the third round with a three stroke advantage. AshTHW turns in a consistent 87.

Round four sees MacTHW giving up one stroke to the enderdog along the front nine. enderdog’s competitive nature takes over as he finishes out the back nine with Eagle, birdie, birdie. MacTHW fails to respond due to a a modified “binkdog-Choke” effect that cools off his putter and enderdog finishes out all four rounds with a total of 277, edging out MacTHW by 2 two strokes. His 65 is good enough to defeat his previous best of 67, solidifying his Course Pro status at Sheshan.

The final standings are:

Course PAR: 72 | Tournament PAR: 288
POSPlayerTHRUTOTALSCORE
1enderdog72277-11
2MacTHW72279-9
3binkdog72310+22
4AshTHW72367+79

Congratulations to enderdog on his 6th tournament win. Who will stand in the way of enderdog’s march down the warpath to another victory at the THW VIA Cup, starting November 18th at Royal Melbourne?

On a roll, enderdog decides to play one more round at Liberty National. This would also be a team game with Team binkerton looking to capitalize on enderdog’s winning momentum.

In the individual competition, MacTHW looks poised to be on track for a course record but enderdog would have none of that, dousing MacTHW’s hopes and running to clubhouse with a new course record of 67 on his scorecard, unseating BWP as the Course Pro.

Meanwhile, the team game sees Team Awesome down by one at the turn but they battle back to bring the game all square by the 13th, but two consecutive birdies by enderdog on the 15th and 16th would put the game to bed with a 2UP win for Team binkerton.

Yet another close tournament. Thanks to everyone for playing. We may have to start wagering to guess exactly how many times enderdog practices Royal Melbourne over the coming weeks.

by MacTHW

Practice time is over. It’s now time to see if that practice has paid off or if the time would have been better spent going to bed early and sleeping. This Friday is the THW World Championship to be played at Sheshan GC. MacTHW is the defending champion and hopes to see everyone on the links Friday night!
