The Dogs Go Hunting

by MacTHW

enderdog hits the course this weekend in search of more Course Pro statuses. binkdog attempts to hatch that goose egg of his into a winner, Ash refuses to come out of the caboose and MacTHW desperately tries to retain that No. 1 ranking on the leaderboard. Lots of games were played this weekend. These are your weekend headlines…Summary Edition.

Ash, bink and MacTHW start off the evening at Banff. The crew is trying to play through all of the courses and first up ar the B’s…so Banff it is. binkdog wants something in the “Win” column but so does MacTHW who edges out binkdog by one stroke after 18. MacTHW becomes Course Pro at Banff Springs and puts another tick mark in the W column.

enderdog joins the fracas as the boys head to the next B course, Bethpage Black. enderdog also wishes to inject himself into the rumble for Course Pro. Fortunately for enderdog, the rest of the field is busy tripping over themselves and he strolls to an 8 stroke victory after 18, besting binkdog’s second-place-worthy 79. enderdog takes Course Pro status with a 71 at Bethpage Black.

Up next, the alphabet shifts by one and the crew tee off at Costa Navarino. It soon turns into a dog-fight, as both bink and ender dogs engage in battle for the Costa Navarino Course Pro treat. The energetic pup barely edges out binkdog by two strokes for victory at Costa Navarino. enderdog attains another Course Pro status with a one-under-par score of 71.

Last round of the evening finds the crew at Celtic Manor. binkdog sets out to let the rookie know that old dogs can indeed still learn new tricks. While binkdog is busy schooling the enderpup, MacTHW quietly sneaks by the both of them, marking the course with his Course Pro status. MacTHW wins the round with a two stroke advantage over binkdog’s 76.

The golf weekend picks up on Saturday at Liberty National. enderdog resumes his quest for Course Pro statuses (stati??). enderdog gains a two stroke lead at the turn, which only widens on the back nine. enderdog sprints to the clubhouse a winner, four strokes better than second place MacTHW. enderdog becomes Course Pro at Liberty National with a two-over-par 73.

Pebble Beach is next on the itinerary. The rookie was the last to win here during the last season and looks to become the first winner of the new season. enderdog delivers a stunning knockout victory, besting MacTHW by four and binkdog by a ten count. enderdog becomes Course Pro at Pebble Beach with three-under-par score of 69.

Pinehurst No.2 may be located in North Carolina but the greens (on Tournament mode) are modeled after the Rocky Mountains, as each pin sits atop a crest or on the side of a cliff. Everyone finds their putts rolling back to their feet instead of going in the cup. Again. And Again. MacTHW keeps his white knuckle grip on the lead, eking out a small, two stroke victory over the enderdog. MacTHW becomes Course Pro at Pinehurst No.2 with a nine-over-par score of 79.

Ash is a beaten man after the debacle at Pinehurst, so for the last round at St Andrews it’s just MacTHW and two dogs. binkdog is hungry for a Course Pro victory as all three players head into the turn tied at 35. MacTHW, aware both dogs have their eye on victory, throws a meaty bone and tells them to “FETCH!”. While the dogs are distracted, MacTHW high-tails it to the clubhouse with a Course Record AND Season Low Round record of 66 at St Andrews.

Seven Course Pro Records and one Overall Season Low Round record get set this weekend. MacTHW clings to the No. 1 rank, barely. binkdog will need to continue his goose egg quest next weekend. Until then…have fun practicing.

The Storm at Harbour Town

It’s been said that practice makes perfect. It would only stand to reason then that a relentless, obessive-compulsive focus on one course, day in and day out, will win you a tournament. But, we’d have to ask the rookie about that. The senior guard at THW Golf trips all over themselves while Ash voraciously guards the caboose. Stay tuned, for these are your weekend headlines for the Shootout at the Harbour tournament.

eAlthough there were a few glaring signs stating otherwise, everything appeared calm at the Harbour Town Golf Links Friday evening. Hurricane Enderdog made landfall on Saturday, striking with such authority that spectators, and players alike, were left scratching their heads, wondering what the heck had just hit them. “I thought I bought tickets to a tournament but with the exception of the winner, all I saw was amateurs”, said one spectator, with another one adding “If I wanted to watch this kind of trainwreck, I’d go to my local driving range. I’m still a big fan of the People’s Champ, though”.

Things did get off to a bumpy start for the trio of golfers teeing off Friday evening. MacTHW starts off with birdie, triple, birdie, triple, birdie, bogie on the front nine of the first round. Bogies must be infectious, as Ash and binkdog do what they can to match MacTHW. All players hit the turn at over par… each over 40. MacTHW 41, binkdog 44 and Ash 46. MacTHW turns things around on the back nine, although a triple on 16 erases his gains from birdies on 12 and 15. binkdog and Ash continue their bogey-laden bender and make a dash to the clubhouse with an 87 (binkdog) and 90 (Ash) on their scorecards. MacTHW brings it home with an 81.

MacTHW continues to follow a pattern, carding a bogey, birdie, par, bogey, birdie, par and then birdie, bogey, totalling a 36 at the turn. binkdog and Ash, both still aboard the Bogey Express hit the turn at 41 and 43, respectively. MacTHW plays the back nine relatively trouble free with the exception of a triple on the 15th. binkdog disembarks the Bogey Express also playing well on the back nine with the exception of a double on the 17th. Ash, however, collects bogies of all kinds, ranging from single to quintuplet. He finishes round two with a 93. MacTHW ekes out a three stroke victory over binkdog, carding a 74 to binkdog’s 77.

All players retire for the evening after two rounds, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the rookie. They would soon get their wish.

Standings after 36 holes are:

MacTHW - 155 - +13
binkdog - 164 - +22
AshTHW - 183 - +41

Hey, it’s Saturday, which just so happens to come after Friday.

MacTHW is the first to feel the effects of a fresh, rested, distraction-free and well-practiced enderdog. MacTHW starts off on a disastrous third round, which sees way too many bogies, including ones of the double and quad varieties. enderdog, meanwhile, plays it cool, keeping bogies to a minimum. All golfers are ahead of MacTHW at the turn, enderdog leading him by 9 strokes. MacTHW tries to get it together on the back nine, but enderdog is still going strong. binkdog also tries to keep pace but stumbles with three consecutive bogies starting the 15th. Ash, however, does what he can to secure his seat in the caboose. The rookie takes the round with a 72, binkdog close behind with a 78, MacTHW an 84 and Ash a 93.

While MacTHW takes some time out to repair his ViaBanana Buzzsaw, binkdog plays a non-score-counting round with the enderdog to get in one of the rookie’s extra rounds that was missed yesterday. binkdog tries to use the “Competitors Will Play Down To Your Level” technique on enderdog, which appears to be working along the front nine, as enderdog hits the turn at 2 over par. The rookie wises up as binkdog continues his off-the-charts bogey spree, turning it around and finishes the round with a 73 compared to binkdog’s bogey-ful and course high record setting 96.”Well, dang it, ya’ll! That didn’ work out so good. Ah reckon ev’thans be ah’ite, though”, said the hopeful Texan after the horrendous round.

MacTHW is back as the four players head back onto the links. It is quickly apparent that not even the ViaBanana Buzzsaw can fix what is wrong with MacTHW’s game at this point as he racks up back-to-back triples on the front nine. The THWs hit the turn at 44 (Mac) and 50 (Ash), while the elder, binkdog, battles it out with the rookie along the front nine. Age trumps experience as the young pup bests the elder dog by three strokes at the turn. MacTHW tries to mount a charge starting on the 10th but it is short lived and fizzles quickly. binkdog continues his battle with enderdog along the back nine, but tires early, letting the rookie gain another three strokes on him. Meanwhile, Ash, fearful that binkdog may try to steal his Caboose-Master General title after witnessing binkdog’s 96, barricades himself in the caboose, writing a 98 on his scorecard at the end of the round. enderdog runs to the clubhouse with a 70, then binkdog with a 76 and MacTHW with an 83. “No dogs allowed in the caboose”, commented Ash when asked about binkdog’s attempted caboose takeover. When asked about how long he plans to keep that spot, Ash replied “Blerp, derp wing dang noodle doodle”.

enderdog needs one more round to finish the tournament. MacTHW offers to play the last round as binkdog scampers off to lick his wounds. At this point, the buzzsaw is barely idling and running on fumes. enderdog, however, is firing on all cylinders—throwing down an eagle on the 5th and hitting the turn with a 34. MacTHW is four strokes behind with a 38. Slowing down is not in the cards for enderdog as he finishes out the back nine with a 36 for a new course record low of 70. MacTHW comes in with a 76.

After playing 72 aggressive, take-no-prisoners, opponent-crushing holes, enderdog comes out on top and walks away with the tournament winning shirt. Once the buzzsaw lost it’s bite, binkdog sneaks into second place letting MacTHW have third place while Ash sits in the caboose with 4th place. Here are the final results:

Enderdog - 285 - +1
binkdog - 318 - +34
MacTHW - 322 - +38
AshTHW - 374 - +90

I’ve played this course…like 50 times…to prepare for this tournament. That shirt is mine, mine, mine.”, said Enderdog after the tournament. “Although ah wood’a liked to’ve come in first, it feels good to beat MacTHW. Yeeehaw!”, replied the Lone Star State resident when asked how he feels about coming in second. “Oh yeah, well….I have a green jacket and they don’t. So there!”, muttered a disgusted MacTHW before cutting his postgame interview short. Ash, though, summed it up best with “Blurrp”.

Thanks for tuning in to yet another great and exciting tournament. The THW Players Championship is coming up soon at TPC Sawgrass. We can only assume that enderdog has already started practicing.

Your official invitation to play at the Shootout at the Harbour tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links has arrived.

enderdog claims the tournament is his for the taking. binkdog thinks it’s time for the shirt to return to Texas. MacTHW and AshTHW are members of the “Keep the Shirts in Colorado” coalition. Where, oh where, will the shirt end up? One way to find out is to play…

The THW Masters Patch

by MacTHW

Patch

This is a close-up of the embroidered THW Masters patch, which has been hand-sewn onto the green jacket.

The patch is an embroidered version of binkdog’s “Golftown USA”—a drawing he made on his iPad back in May of 2010. If it looks familiar to you that’s because it has been used in numerous tournament posters.  It is also the background of the current http://www.teamhousewares.com web site. I really like the original drawing and it immediately came to mind when thinking of a design for the green jacket patch.
