Course Pro Galore
by MacTHW
The ViaBanana Buzzsaw sees a slight modification. Our golf pros eye some open Course Pro spots. Come one, come three. These are your Saturday night headlines.
After a no-play Friday night, three golfers showed up to place their ball on the tee at The Els Club. The rookie, back from defeat at Augusta, attempts to hang with the THWs. MacTHW throws down a birdie on the second to establish a pace. Ash’s buzzsaw still appears to be stuck in reverse as he goes on an immediate bogey bender. MacTHW and enderdog battle along the front nine, with enderdog seeming to get the upper-hand until an unfortunate double on the 9th leaves both of them ties at 36 at the turn. Ash goes on an immediate bogey streak, broken only by a birdie on the 16th. enderdog and MacTHW continue their battle along the back nine, with the enderdog once again appearing to take a lead. enderdog bogies the 16th and MacTHW birdies the 18th, leaving both pros tied after 18. MacTHW and enderdog card a 73 while Ash limps into the clubhouse with a 100.
Next, enderdog suggests Sheshan. Unbeknownst to him, this was the setting for the 2010 THW World Championship tournament, won by yours truly, MacTHW. The rookie runs into trouble right away and does his best to fend off the bogey monster. Sheshan shows no mercy for MacTHW either, handing him five bogey along the front nine. MacTHW ekes ahead of enderdog and Ash at the turn with a 39, putting him 2 ahead of the rookie and 7 ahead of Ash. Enderdog mounts a charge along the back nine seeking that elsuive checkmark in the Win column. MacTHW fends off the charge, besting enderdog’s 35 with his own 33 along the back nine. After the dust settles, it’s MacTHW 72, enderdog 76 and Ash 88. Looks like we have a new 2011 Course Pro at Sheshan.
The enderdog, still looking for a Course Pro record takes the golfers to East Lake, the scene of the previous Bolt-Action tournament, won by binkdog. Ash needs to bring the buzzsaw to the repair shop as it is hoplessly stuck in reverese. Another string bogeys leaves him with a 47 at the turn. enderdog puts up his own 47 at the turn becoming a mere glimmer in MacTHW’s rear-view mirror. enderdog attempts another charge, taking advantage of MacTHW’s bogies on 10, 13 and double on 14. His charge fizzles on the 16th and with MacTHW seeing birds on 16 and 17, enderdog settles for second place 5 strokes behind MacTHW’s 79. Ash rolls in with a 97.
MacTHW’s buzzsaw is nearly empty so the trip to Torrey Pines would be the last round of the evening. Seeing as this is the rookie’s last chance at a Course Pro status, enderdog tries to kick it into high gear. Unfortunately, he falls victim to the narrow fairways at Torrey Pines and fights to keep from imploding all together. At the turn, enderdog is trailing by five strokes to MacTHW’s blistering 2-under par score of 34 at the turn. Ash is close behind the enderdog with a 43. MacTHW’s buzzsaw is now running on fumes and it shows with a double on 11 and 14. enderdog looks to capitalize but he’s not able to convert his pars into birdies. The buzzsaw is too powerful for the rookie. MacTHW finishes the round with a 74, enderdog a 76 and Ash an 87.
So what’s the damage here? After MacTHW shuts out the rookie, he moves into the No.1 spot, sending the enderdog down one spot to No.2. MacTHW claims Course Pro status at East Lake, Sheshan and Torrey Pines. enderdog shares Course Pro status with MacTHW at The Els Club. Ash may have set a new bogey streak record, but THW Golf does not track those kind of stats…yet.
Next weekend is the Shootout at the Harbour tournament. Hope to see everyone there.

Dogs Not Allowed At Augusta
by MacTHW
Welcome, everyone. It’s a fresh new season here at THW Golf. The stats have been reset to zero and everyone starts off with a blank slate. The new Tiger Woods 2012: The Masters game is barely a week old and already we find ourselves in the midst of a tournament.
The tournament would be the namesake of the game—The THW Masters to be played at beautiful, yet unforgiving, Augusta National. Trees, deep rough, twisting fairways, Ray’s Creek and extremely fast greens all look to make this an interesting and challenging tournament.
It was “Game On” Friday night, as Ash, binkdog, enderdog, MacTHW and virgdawg all stepped up to the tee, vying for THW Golf’s most prestigious prize yet, a THW Golf green jacket along with the notoriety of becoming the first ever THW Masters winner. Modded Chicken Sticks were trotted out, ViaBanana Buzzsaws were primed for action and the smack was talked. But who could walk the walk? Sit back and enjoy, these are your headlines for the 2011 THW Masters.
Round one starts with the Thursday pin locations. enderdog starts out hot, carding six birdies on the front nine which, unfortunately, are offset by two double-bogeys on the 2nd and 4th. binkdog and MacTHW play conservatively, only one stroke behind enderdog at the turn. Ash and virgdawg get run over by the Bogey-Express and fall behind. enderdog cools off on the back nine, as do binkdog and MacTHW, each having to mark down bogies on their scorecards. MacTHW doubles twice and binkdog scores a triple on 11. The two dogs are tied for the lead going into 18. Who would take command? Answer: neither. Both dogs bogey on 18, tieing for a first round win with a score of PAR (72). MacTHW follows with a 75 while Ash and virgdawg trundle home with a 94 and 111, repectively.
Round two would use the Friday pin selection. With three shots down, MacTHW refills the ViaBanana buzzsaw and heads to the first tee. Virgdawg can not continue at this time and will make up the extra rounds on Saturday. The players are immediately aware that the Friday pins are harder. Much harder. Birdies are not so prevalent this round. They are, in fact, rare. No one hits the turn at par or under. Only MacTHW has a score in the 30s, and barely at that. MacTHW’s buzzsaw is in high-gear as he manages to focus and avoid trouble as Ash and binkdog run into a brick wall on the back nine. binkdog snags a triple on 10 and Ash a quad on 13. Even the enderdog gets a double on 12. binkdog manages to cling on within striking distance and MacTHW almost obliges as he bogies 16, 17 and 18. Alas, the buzzsaw was too strong. MacTHW eeks out a three stroke victory over binkdog. Final round scores are MacTHW 76, binkdog 79, enderdog a bit off pace at 84 and Ash with an even 100.
After Friday night, the standings are:
T1. MacTHW - 151 (+7)
T1. binkdog - 151 (+7)
3. enderdog - 156 (+12)
4. Ash - 194 (+50)
5. virgdawg - 111 (DNF)
After a morning of rest, it was time to hit the links again, this time with the Saturday pin location. binkdog, with visions of a green jacket in his future, looks to take the lead. binkdog plays it safe and steady maintaining par along the front nine. Ash’s buzzsaw goes into reverse on the 4th with double bogey, a dreaded 11 on the 5th and a triple on the 6th. It finally spits him out at the turn with a 52. The carnage continues along the back nine with nine consecutive bogeys, which ends with Ash heading to the clubhouse with a 105 on his scorecard. binkdog, enderdog and MacTHW keep their distance from the out-of-control buzzsaw and duck into the clubhouse with a 76, 78 and 76, respectively, on their cards. Although, binkdog runs into a bit of trouble of his own on the 15th costing him a double-bogey and a shot at the lead.
After round three, binkdog and MacTHW are STILL tied for first place. Round four commences play wiht the Sunday pin selection. The tournament crowd surrounding enderdog was proving to be a distraction for him. With the enderdog already distracted, only one dog was still nipping on MacTHW’s heels. MacTHW throws a stick and tells binkdog to “fetch” and makes a break for it down the front nine. At the turn, he enjoys a four stroke lead over binkdog. enderdog cards 5 birdies along the back nine which, again, are offset by some rather unfortunate bogies of the double, triple and quintuple kind. binkdog mounts a charge while MacTHW starts cracking on the 16th with a double boguise. binkdog gains two but a bogey on the 18th seals the deal and the tournament. MacTHW signs off on a card that reads 74. binkdog cards a 76, enderdog an 84 and Ash a 93.
MacTHW successfully keeps the dogs on a leash and stays clear of a reverse buzzsaw to win the tournament AND the coveted green jacket. Final results are:
1. MacTHW - 301 (+13)
2. binkdog - 303 (+15)
3. enderdog - 318 (+30)
4. Ash - 392 (+104)
5. virgdawg - 111 (DNF)
Thanks for a great tournament everyone. Hope to see everyone on the links next weekend.
