Chicken Stick Re-Gripped

by Mac

Tigershark Grip

Not that there was anything wrong with the Golf Pride grip that ships with the Chicken Stick, I decided to have my Chicken Stick re-gripped after discovering the Tigershark Ultra Tac. True, it is a putter grip but it has a nice feel to it. I’m hoping it won’t interfere with my Wii swing too much, as it has taken me months to get it somewhat decent.

The guys at the golf shop got a kick out of the Chicken Stick, as they had never seen one before. For the record, I am told that I am the first person to have their Chicken Stick re-gripped at Colorado Ski and Golf smile

After some full, all out swings and a few practice nines, it appears that it’s gonna be OK. I’ll find out for sure during the tournament this weekend.

The Via-Banana Buzzsaw For the Win

by MacTHW

Yes, headlines. It’s been a while.

As the Tiger Woods 2011 season comes to a close, competition seems to be heating up. A new member has joined the ranks while two fierce competitiors battle it out for the number one ranking at THW Golf.

Last weekend saw our golfers compete in the THW Golf Championship. The leaderboard was shaken up, old records were broken and new records were set. While the Via-Banana buzzsaw cuts loose, a rookie eyes the Course Pro position at Kiawah Ocean. These are your headlines for the THW Golf Championship weekend.

Five golfers—Ash, binkdog, enderdog, MacTHW and Virg, took to the field on Friday evening for the first round at TPC Blue Monster. Virg has the unfortunate luck to run into an Elway on the first hole while MacTHW burns through the front nine hoping to leave the competitors in the dust. binkdog keeps pace, only one stroke behind MacTHW at the turn. MacTHW again tries to pull ahead on the back nine, carding four consecutive birdies starting on the 12th. Unfortunately, it would not be enough to break the overall low of 62. Ash maintains his lead over Virg, who begins a bogey streak on the 15th. As Virg and the caboose roll into the station with an overall 84, round one is in the books.

Results are:

MacTHW - 62
binkdog - 66
enderdog - 67
AshTHW - 76
Virg - 84

Hoping to extend his lead, MacTHW fires up the Via-Banana buzzsaw for round two. Twitchy, yet on top of his game, MacTHW takes to the tee box. binkdog is looking for retribution, as he had a terrible day of “real” golfing, putting up a 111 against his life-long golf nemesis. binkdog appears to make good on his threat as he comes in at seven under at the turn, but MacTHW is right there to match him, throwing down seven birdies of his own on the front nine. The enderdog is two strokes behind as the players head to the 10th. Virg, who can’t stop running into an Elway, battles with Ash for the caboose. Neither binkdog nor MacTHW can sustain their blistering pace on the back nine. A double-bogey by bink on the 16th followed by a bogey on the 18th dash his hopes of retribution, his attempt at a new overall record and a round winning score in one fell swoop. MacTHW wins the round with yet another record tying score of 62 while Ash runs into trouble on the back nine and limps in with a 90.

Results are:

MacTHW - 62
binkdog - 63
enderdog - 66
Virg - 86
AshTHW - 90

Our golfers would play the last two rounds on Saturday and finsihed out Friday evening with a non-tournament game at Kiawah Ocean.

Enderdog and MacTHW battle it out at Kiawah Ocean. The rookie offers up four birdies along the front, while MacTHW could only muster three, giving enderdog a one stroke lead at the turn. binkdog, five strokes behind, appeared to be heading towards the back of the train. Virg, sensing binkdog was working his way to occupying his spot in the caboose, goes on a bogey bender and puts up a 52, effectively locking binkdog out of the back car. AshTHW makes a run at the caboose but is denied. MacTHW has trouble getting anything going along the back nine. An eagle by the rookie on the 11th and a birdie on the 17th assured him of victory at Kiawah Ocean. enderdog’s 65 bests binkdog’s course low of 72, making the rookie the new Course Pro at Kiawah Ocean.

Results are:

enderdog - 65
MacTHW - 68
binkdog - 73
AshTHW - 88
Virg - 92

The tournament continues on Saturday evening. Disaster strikes for the rookie during round three, as too much partying and a defective router take the enderdog out of competition. MacTHW wastes no time firing up the Via-Banana buzzsaw and announces his intention to win this tournament by throwing down a birdie on the opening hole. Tweet, tweet! AshTHW and binkdog birdie the 1st as well, but binkdog runs into a double-bogey on the 3rd, putting the brakes on a furious start to the front nine. Scores are close at the turn, with MacTHW having a three stroke lead over binkdog. AshTHW runs into trouble immediately along the back and battles for the caboose with Virg. The buzzsaw kicks into high gear with MacTHW getting eagle on the 10th, followed by birdie on 12 and 16. Some unfortunate bogeys along the back nine put binkdog six strokes behind and the end of the round, handing the ever consistent MacTHW a win for round three. AshTHW barely edges out Virg for third place.

Results are:

MacTHW - 63
binkdog - 69
AshTHW - 82
Virg - 83
enderdog - DNF

Last round. The enderdog rejoins the group. AshTHW leads the charge with a birdie on the 1st. The field is tight at the turn, except for Virg, who won’t stop to get Elway’s autograph. Three strokes separate first and third place, with MacTHW leading the pack at 31. MacTHW struggles to maintain par on the back nine, with him and binkdog only garnering two birdies apiece along the back. binkdog and the rookie tie, each with a 68…three strokes behind the winner MacTHW.

Results are:

MacTHW - 65
binkdog - 68
enderdog - 68
AshTHW - 77
Virg - 80

Tournament final results are:

1. MacTHW - 252 (-36)
2. binkdog - 266 (-22)
3. AshTHW - 325 (+37)
4. Virg - 333 (+45)
5. enderdog - 201 (DNF)

Not only did the events at the tournament shake up the overall leaderboard a bit, it also set some new records.

First off, MacTHW overtakes binkdog for the No. 1 ranking at THW Golf, although only by a very small margin—.019 points to be exact. While binkdog falls to second place, the rookie enderdog moves up a spot to 6th place, whilst improving his average round to 78. And speaking about the enderdog, he also becomes the Course Pro at Kiawah Ocean, after binkdog unsuccessfully attempts to defend his title there. enderdog wishes to coin a new term as well—the sanderton. That’s where one hits the ball from sand trap to sand trap. And finally, MacTHW manages to go bogey-free for five consecutive rounds, including all four rounds of the THW Golf Championship tournament.

Surprisingly, no one was able to beat the overall course record of 62 set by binkdog at TPC Blue Monster on 10/23/2010.

Well, there you have it. Next tournament is at Bay Hill on March 25th. Get a practicin’!

About THW Golf

THW Golf is a private online golf league that plays Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Wii. Membership is not open to the public and one must be invited by a current member in order to join. THW Golf was formed during the Tiger Woods 2010 season and provides for a family-friendly environment where known friends can get together and compete in challenging and cheat-free golf sessions. We think that not opening ourselves to the trolls and cheaters and hackers of the greater World Wide Web is key to maintaining that environment.

Although we are closed for public membership, please feel free to check out our stats, headlines, tournaments, promotional videos, and heck, even our by-laws. As you can see, while we may be a small group, we like to think BIG. But more importantly, we like to have FUN.

You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter, thanks to the team’s resident social butterflies,
Ash and binkdog.
