The People’s Champ is in the Building
by binkdog
Ze5 returned from a brief hiatus to join Mac and Binkdog to vie for the crown of supreme labor day duffer.
Our golfers started their night at harbour town. The narrow first fairway made victims of all 3 golfers as par eluded all and binkdog was one in the caboose with an opening double! He quickly got back on track with a double. Mac found the dreaded banana slice again and rounded the turn in 44, several shots off the pace. Bink and ze5 traded the lead on the front and ze5’s 3 birdies powered him to a 37 and share of the lead with bink at the turn. The back 9 saw more of the same for the peoples champ as he came home in 47 with several out of bounds penalties for a 91 - ouch! Meanwhile, back at the top of the leader board, binkdog carded a pair of birdies to stretch out to a 2 shot lead over ze5 after 16. Ze5 charged back with yet another impressive putt to birdie the 17th and pull within 1 of the lead. With the game on the line, ze5 found some trouble on 18 while bink got close with his approach. Ze5 bogeyed while binkdog birdied. Binkdog finished with a 74 and the win while ze5 carded a personal best of 77. Way to go ze5!!!

The people’s Champ was hoping to rebound from a rough start at our next venue of kiawah island. Binkdog jumped out to an early lead of -1 after 4 holes. After a couple of rough holes, ze5 threw down a couple of birdies to challenge for a share of the lead. Mac was pretty consistent, only giving up 2 bogeys on the front while tossing in a birdie and taking the lead with a 37 at the turn. Binkdog’s hot start was quickly cooled with a double bogey. Ze5 was also bitten by the double bogey bug on #9 and hit the turn with bink at 39, 2 behind rock steady Mac . Bink and ze5 birdied on 11 to put the pressure on mac. Their charge quickly went backward, as they couldn’t find the fairway and bogey town was their new address. While mac feasted on a steady diet of pars, bink and ze5 enjoyed the scenery from the caboose. The people’s champ roared back with a 75 and the win!!! After leaving bink in the caboose on 17, ze5 fell into trouble on 18 and bink snuck into 2nd with a par at 82, beating out ze5’s 83.

For the final round of the night, our duffers previewed the scene of our next tourney - cog hill. Mac and bink jumped out early, with ze5 in close pursuit. A pair of birdies at the 9th gave mac and bink a 2 shot lead over ze5 at the turn, 36 to 38. Ze5 found bogey town early on the back. Binkdog and mac were locked in a battle until the 16th, where binkdog got a serious case of the bogeys and gave back what he gained early on the back. mac was able to keep it together for a 39 on the back and another victory score of 75!!! Bink and ze5 bogeyed their way to a 41 on the back 9 for a 77 and 79. All in all, a good match with all 3 golfers in the 70s!!!

It appears the people’s champ has been restored to the top of the mountain! Are his opponents shaking in their golf shoes?? We’ll find out next weekend!!!

Two Guys Playing Golf
by MacTHW
With most of the other THW golfers off for the night, Saturday was just two guys playing golf. Does that need headlines? Don’t be silly, of course it does…and here they are!
The first round would take place at Bay Hill. binkdog, fresh off his victory at the THW Boston 2010 Championship was full of smack-talk. MacTHW was looking to redeem himself from yesterday’s disappointing showing at the same event. Starting off with two bogeys did nothing to re-assure MacTHW that he indeed is awesome. Things looked up at the 5th, as he would go on a three birdie streak. binkdog gets himself into trouble on the 6th, putting up a familiar 10. Things are looking up for MacTHW as the players head into the turn at 35 (Mac) and 40(binkdog). binkdog, looking to make a comeback, plays a nearly bogey-free back nine. MacTHW, however, goes on another three birdie streak and both players finish the back nine with a 35, giving MacTHW a 70 for the win, over binkdog at 75.

Next, the golfers moved to Liberty National. binkdog launches an assault that finds MacTHW four strokes down at the turn. In addition to fending off the binkdog, MacTHW also finds himself with a ticket on the very un-popular Out-of-Bounds Express. The dreaded “banana hook” makes a brief appearance, just long enough to destroy any hopes of MacTHW winning this round. Although binkdog puts up quite a few bogeys of his own, MacTHW puts up even more. binkdog hands MacTHW a nicely wrapped loss. binkdog 75 to MacTHW’s 79.

Overall, for the evening, MacTHW still leads by one stroke.
The players head on over to Oakmont and the famous “church pews” bunkers. MacTHW struggles to hold on to that one stroke lead, while binkdog is gunning for yet another win. Each player would bag two birdies on the front nine and binkdog would lead…by one stroke at the turn. binkdog 37 and MacTHW 38. Both players battle on the back nine, but no one seems to get the upper hand. Both players turn in a 37 on the back nine. binkdog takes the round by one stroke. binkdog 74 and MacTHW 75.

Saturday would result in a tie, however, binkdog theorizes that he should be proclaimed winner, as he won more rounds. Hmmm. Good things theories are just that, theories. Although the players left it as is, perhaps a 9-hole playoff was in order.
See everyone on the links next weekend…and possibly in the midst of yet another THW Golf tournament.

THW Boston 2010 Championship
by MacTHW
Friday night saw three players take part in the THW Boston 2010 Championship. Four rounds of intensley competitive play saw our golfers up, down, out, back in, and perhaps, even counting their chickens before they’d hatched. Stay tuned, these are your headlines for the THW Boston 2010 Championship.
The players were agressive out of the gate, putting up five birdies on the front nine. Most surprising, though, was MacTHW, who managed to make it to the turn on par. Apparantly, the training sessions are paying off for him. The players managed to keep the bogey-man at bay on the back nine and would head into the 18th with very respectable scores. binkdog would birdie the 18th, but it was not enough to defeat the People’s Champ, who finished off his opponents with a 70…one under par for the course. binkdog would follow with a 75 and Ash with a 79.

All warmed up, the players were now firing on all cylinders. The front nine would see more birdies than bogeys, perhaps a first at THW Golf. binkdog would be responsible for five of those birdies, Mac carding three and Ash snagged two for himself. binkdog, determined to move into the lead, would be 4 under par at the turn, with MacTHW being the closest competitor at six strokes behind. The back nine would see MacTHW mounting a charge to regain the lead, putting 4 birdies on the scoreboard in the process. Unfortunately, it was not enough to offset the damage done by binkdog on the front nine. binkdog takes the round with a scorching 68, setting a new personal record for the binkdog. Mac comes in 4 strokes behind with a 72. Ash appeared to have been distracted by sightings of Elway, as he put up sevens on the 2nd and 5th holes, and finished with a 77. That’s a lot of Elway, there.

It was evident the players could not keep up the furious pace established during the first two rounds. The third round would see the return of bogeys galore. The 2nd hole was the source of much drama. First, Ash would get an Eagle, showing his intention for grabbing a piece of the crown. binkdog did not have as much luck, as an errant shot sent him into the junk. The cabbage? No, more like the cornfield. binkdog would struggle and ended up nearly exceeding the shot limit with a 10. Ash and Mac attempted to capitalize on binkdog’s misfortune, but it was not to be. Amazingly, binkdog fought back, closing in on MacTHW and actually surpassing Ash at the turn. Ash fought back on the back nine, but a bogey on the 18th would put him in third place. MacTHW wins the round with a 77 and binkdog following closely behind with a 79.

The scores were close and it could still be anyone’s championship. The time to make the move was now. Unfortunately, for one player, an awesomely eipc fail was in the cards. binkdog sets the tone immediately, putting up a birdie on the 1st. And then, it happens. Deja vu. Hole 2, the same hole that earned binkdog a 10 last round, would, this time, grab hold of MacTHW’s shot and put him in the same exact cornfield that binkdog had to play from. Calmly thinking he had the shot, Mac would soon discover why it previously took binkdog 4 shots to recover from this lie. MacTHW would recover with a 10 as well, but the damage had been done. binkdog moves into the overall lead for the THW Boston 2010 Championship. Ash and binkdog then moved to destroy the weakened MacTHW and would pull way ahead at the turn. binkdog would be at 33, Ash at 39 and Mac at 43. Not content with just being the overall leader, binkdog pulled out all the stops and went on a 4 birdie tear on the back nine. After the dust settled, binkdog would set yet another personal record for himself, finished round 4 with a 67. Ash follows with a 76 and MacTHW limps in with a disappointing 82.

Final results:
binkdog - 289
MacTHW - 301
Ash - 312
All in all, a very exciting, action-packed tournament. Regular golfing resumes tomorrow. Catch you all then. Ash will be out of action until next weekend.

Team “not so awesome” ?
by binkdog
Saturday night was another fun night on the links. Would the people’s champ bring his A game again, would any of the poultry show up? Would Ash find his pants? Would team awesome get it back on track? These are your golfing headlines for Saturday, August 28th!
It was a record shattering night right off the bat, as Team Awesome (mac and ash) teamed up once again to try to regain some glory against team ImaTryingDog/ImaDog (Virg and Binkdog). Team Awesome and their new (c ) rap theme song (NSFW) were doing a LOT of smack talking before the round began. In a record shattering performance (some called it cheating
), Virg and Bink won 8 of the first 9 holes to take the turn in 8UP - unheard of in THW golfing history!! Team ImaTryingDog put team awesome and their lame theme song out of their misery on the 10th hole with yet another hole and the victory of 9UP with 8 to go!! Way to go Virg and Bink - record time!!!
The night took an interesting twist, as Bink, Virg, and Ash finally managed to apply enough peer pressure on Mac to get him to agree to play an exhibition match at the predator. We will need independent verification from the ‘geek, but mac went mute on TS, apparently to yell at his TV for a while before he could put up with his fellow golfers who dragged him to the predator
While mac brooded over the choice of course and all golfers played bogey+ golf on most holes, team ImaDog managed to grab a victory on the back 9 and finally got the victory of 3UP on 17.
Since Mac was gracious enough to play the predator, he picked the next team event course. His choice was ………….. wait for it ………………. Wolf Creek GC! Some internet connections caused a false start after about 5 holes in a very tight match. Team ImaDog jumped out on the 2nd try and got to the turn with a lead of 2UP , as each team played much better than the predator
As in the previous games, team ImaDog pulled away on the “important 9” as team awesome was too busy worrying about learning the lyrics to their new ©rap theme song
Final score - Team ImaDog takes it 4UP with 3 to go!
Virg bowed out at this point, going out as team champ! Jared made it home from work in time to play a game with our tired duffers. Bethpage Black would be the scene of the final event of the night. Binkdog snagged an early lead as the par 4 2nd caused troubles for the other golfers. As the front progressed, Jared and Bink chased par, while Mac and Ash chased the caboose:-) Bink was clinging to a 1 stroke lead at the turn with a 37, Jared with a birdie at 9 for a 38, while Mac’s 45 was enough to keep Ash in 4th with a 47. Jared had seen enough of bink in the lead and birdied or eagled 3 of the first 5 holes to grab a two shot lead from bink after 14. Bink managed to get back within one on 15 only to give up a shot at 16 and then crept to within one going into the final hole. Jared finished with a safe par and a score of 71. Bink had a good shot at birdie on 18, but the puttinator let him down, as he finished one back with a 72. Mac and Ash battled all the way down the back as Ash had 2 birdies to catch Mac and pull himself out of the caboose. Mac parred the 16th to take 2 shots from Ash’s double and grabbed a 1 shot lead for 3rd, only to find trouble and a double bogey on 17 to give the 2 shots right back to Ash. Both players had a chance on the final hole, but in the end both ended up with the same score and Ash out-dueled mac 87-88. Congrats to Jared on a super blistering back 9 of 33, which should be a record. Bink’s 35 on the back might be the 2nd best score - waiting on confirmation from our official stats keeper!
Great games all, and we look forward to next week, but without the vacationing Ash who plans to watch the broadcast - have fun Ash !!! Until next time ….

Where are all the chickens?
by binkdog
Celtic manor times three. That was our theme Friday night (8/27) and these are your golfing headlines!
It was a little sparse in the clubhouse again, as it appears most challengers are now afraid of our mountain men and binkdog. Undaunted by the lack of challengers, mac, ash and binkdog took to the links at celtic manor on friday night. It was a hotly contested match on the front 9 with bogeys all around on the first few holes. The ridiculous uphill putt on #1 took mac and ash victim while bink avoided it and grabbed the early lead. He talked his smack and quickly ran into trouble on the rest of the front as mac and ash responded with pars and birdies. At the turn, the people’s champ went birdie/birdie on 8/9 and carded a 39. Bink and Ash were in hot pursuit with a 41. The dynamic duo of ash/bink quickly ran into trouble while the people’s champ was mr. steady with a diet of pars on the back 9. By the time they hit 16 - it was game over after they both tried to drive a short par 4 and found the trees and OB instead. At the end, the people’s champ had carded a NEW personal record and COURSE RECORD at 75! Ash had an 85, and binkdog found himself in the caboose with an 87.
In spite of mac decking out the caboose with free internet, bink didn’t like it and challenged the boys to another round at the celtic manor. Mac and Ash got out to an early lead but binkdog came back with a steady stretch of pars. He then ran into trouble with a triple bogey at the par 4 6th to give back 3 shots to mac and ash. it was close going into #8, but binkdog grabbed the lead with consecutive birdies at 8 and 9 for a 38. Ash had a 40 and Mac (the people’s champ) had a 41. Binkdog’s hot hand would continue on the back 9 as he set a new Team Housewares record of 4 consecutive birdies in a row!! He then followed that up with 3 bogeys in a row - awesome! Ash liked the birdie plan and threw down 2 in a row of his own followed by a few pars to take a one shot lead into 16. The people’s champ was close, but just couldn’t find the fairway enough to make it a 3 way challenge. Ash and Bink entered the par 5 18th with ash up by a shot, and both with a chance to break the record 75 that mac posted the previous game. Both had birdie putts on 18, but ash “binked” his 1st putt and ended up with a 3 putt bogey and a 75. Binkdog also missed his birdie chance but got in with a par to tie Ash for the win with a 75! The people’s champ started heading in the other direction with an 80. Ash took the course back 9 low with a 35 - well done ash!!
Not content to play the sandy, windy, winding, watery course 2 times, our fearless trio had to play one more match for the title of “true champion”
Ash jumped out to a lead on the treacherous 1st hole, with bink possibly setting a personal record with a birdie putt that turned into a “in the hole and out” 6 putt for a 5 over 9! He was heard whining the entire front 9 about a “bug in the game”! Mac also got on the wrong side of the green and like bink had fun and got an 8. Mac and Bink spent the rest of the front 9 chasing Ash, who threw down 2 birdies and finished with a 39. Binkdog got close with 41 and the people’s champ was way more blue than green and finished with a 46 on the front (ouch !!). Binkdog closed the gap early on the back with an impressive eagle on the par 5 11th, which turned out to be the only score below par on the entire back 9! The wind had kicked up a bit, but I think our golfers were just worn out from the beating celtic manor was handing out. While binkdog got bogeys, ash and mac were playing with double bogeys or worse. In the end, binkdog managed to break 80 with a 79, while ash finished with an 84. The people’s champ managed to find the caboose all to himself again, with a disappointing 90, leaving the binkdog as Friday night’s “true champion”
So a week removed from the mountain men’s return, another good round of games!! We can’t wait for some more poultry to show up to determine who the “true champion” for Saturday night is !! See you on the links tonight !!
