MacTHW Adds To Course Record Collection

by MacTHW

Our resident editor was slacking a bit last week and failed to produce headlines by the required deadline. One member theorizes that headlines are delayed when stats perhaps do not benefit the person updating the stats, but this is definitely not the case, as the stats most definitely favored your well known and beloved People’s Champ. These are your quick, Twitter-esque headlines for last weekend.

binkdog binks on Friday, leaves spoils for Ash, MacTHW and enderdog

MacTHW defeats Ash and enderdog at TPC Scottsdale but leaves record on the table

enderdog shoots 85 and wins at Celtic Manor and grabs new course record

MacTHW grabs course record at TPC Blue Monster from binkdog, rematch likely tomorrow

binkdog is in and enderdog is out on Saturday evening. The hunt for course records is on.

MacTHW snags, bags and tags Bethpage Black. Sets new record of 85

MacTHW adds Blackwolf Run to his roster of course records

The Blue Monster rematch is on. MacTHW holds off binkdog and lowers his previous score, keeps Blue Monster

Ash is our most improved player this weekend, shaving a whole ten strokes off his previous week’s AVG, averaging 115 this week. binkdog averages 94 this week, five strokes better than the previous week. MacTHW also improves, shooting an average of 88 this weekend. Enderdog goes in reverse, averaging a 94 this weekend compared to 92 last weekend.

Overall, the average score shot this weekend is a 98 up slightly from last week’s 97. MacTHW gained three course records, enderdog one and binkdog loses one.

Next weekend is the inaugural ShadeTree Classic at TPC River Highlands. Will MacTHW make it back-to-back major championship wins or will someone else swoop in and grab the Housewares Cup points?

Introducing the Housewares Cup

by MacTHW

Housewares Cup

Team Housewares is proud to present the Housewares Cup. It is our version of the FedEx Cup, where points are gained for participating and placing in tournaments throughout the year. While we do not have the funds to award ten million dollars to the winner, our winner will be sure to receive something of substantially lesser value. Nearly ten million dollars lesser, actually. Something along the lines of a Housewares Cup branded cup or glass etched with the winners name comes to mind. Let’s see the FedEx Cup winner drink a tasty beverage out of their “cup”. Ha! Score one for Team Housewares.

So, how does it work? First, let’s examine how the FedEx Cup works. For each tournament played, a player is awarded points depending on how they placed in the tournament (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc). These points accumulate throughout the entire year. Major tournaments are worth more points. These would be your Masters, US Opens, etc. Winners receive 500 points for winning a regular tournament and 600 for a major. The point values then decrease substantially going from 1st through 5th and then level out from 6th through 85th. The point distribution list can be seen here. The top 125 players from the regular season then head into the FedEx Cup playoffs where the points reset so all playoff participants have an equal chance. After four playoff events, the one with most points wins.

For the Housewares Cup, we’ll closely mimic the FedEx Cup. Except, we have less players available. There can’t be any playoffs because we don’t have extra players to cut. The following is the points chart that we will use for this year. Basically, the points decrease about forty percent per tournament finishing position so it encourages one to place higher on the leaderboard. The points only go out for 10 players (we’ve never had 10 consecutive players). Remember, this is a work in progress. If the points are out of balance, they can be re-worked next year should the point system need to be more competitive.

The Housewares Cup points have been calculated retro-actively starting with the first tournament of the TW2014 season. The points have been added to the main stats page and are visible alongside the rank points.

More goodies coming soon smile

Course Pro Positions Disappearing Fast

by MacTHW

It’s an in-between tournament weekend so Course Pro records are the target. Ash returns for more golfing fun. binkdog snoozes and loses…TPC Boston. Both calm enderdog and angry enderdog make an appearance. These are your headlines for the golfing weekend.

binkdog snoozes through tee time on Friday so the course selection becomes a little more pre-defined. The trio of Ash, Mac and PointedMarlin see if they can beat the current record of 95 at TPC Boston. Ash immediately finds some lateral hazards and makes his way to the caboose. Mac and the ‘Marlin keep it close during the front nine but the ‘Marlin steps it up and goes even par along the back nine. PointedMarlin snags the record from binkdog.

Boston:

Ash and the ‘Marlin call it a night but enderdog magically appears and he and Mac head back in time to Augusta 1943 Thursday pins. The going is tough especially on the greens which are seemingly made of ice. enderdog keeps his cool while MacTHW keeps slapping the ball around as if it were a hockey puck. enderdog snags the Course Pro record at Augusta 1943 Thursday.

Augusta 34 Thursday:

enderdog, feeling confident, wants more, more, more. So off to Royal Melbourne they go. enderdog finishes out the front nine strong and keeps up a par streak along the back until the last two holes. After the 16th, enderdog is within a stroke or two of his record setting 75. Unfortunately, he suffers a total binkdog-style meltdown on the last hole and punches out with an 84 on the scorecard. Although, he handily defeats MacTHW and grabs another Course Pro record.

Royal Melbourne:

It’s Saturday and binkdog is fired up about getting his TPC Boston back and calls for an immediate re-match. Ash, binkdog and MacTHW head on over to the lateral hazard laden course and tee off. While binkdog does not threaten the new record, he does threaten to go triple digits after knocking the ball around 54 times just on the front nine. MacTHW, slightly off-pace as well, sees his chances vanish after a horrible bogey-laden back nine. The ‘Marlin’s record is safe, as the best score to be had is 97.

Boston:

binkdog sets his sights on a vacant Course Pro position at East Lake. Immediately, he begins to hemorrhage strokes, mostly around and on the green. binkdog is making a serious play for the caboose but Ash refuses to cede his railcar. MacTHW rolls into the clubhouse with an 87 on the scorecard and a new record under his belt.

East Lake:

Next up on the schedule is Royal County Down, another course in need of a record. MacTHW sets the tone with a few early pars and nets a six stroke lead at the turn. binkdog attempts a mini-charge along the back but MacTHW manages to keep pace. Ash goes on a spree of single-type bogies and turns in his lowest score of the season.

Royal County Down:

enderdog makes a late appearance just as Ash has to sign off. binkdog and enderdog collude to give MacTHW a beatdown and choose The Els Club as the setting. enderdog’s presence seems to shake MacTHW slightly as he has trouble keeping the lead. A two stroke advantage gains on the back nine lead him to victory and into the books with another course record.

Els:

Sipping on a tall cool glass of Hater-ade, binkdog and enderdog do not want to end the evening with MacTHW having a clean sweep. One last round at Spyglass Hill is ordered up. The scores are tight at the turn, as Spyglass is playing very tough. The back is not any better but MacTHW manages to nickel and dime is way to victory, besting the elder ‘dog by four strokes.

Spyglass:

The overall weekend AVG score was 97, one better than the previous week.

enderdog was the most improved player, shedding five strokes from his average of 97 last weekend. Ash also turned in a better average this week, going from 126 to 125. MacTHW was mostly the same, adding one stroke to last weekend’s average of 90. binkdog ran into the most trouble, shooting 93 last weekend and an average of 98 this weekend.

Thanks to all who turned out for this weekends golfing events. The record hunting continues next weekend.

MacTHW Wins Housewares Heritage, Playoff Not Required

by MacTHW

The tournament schedule is heavily loaded this time of year. After finishing up with the Yeehaw Invitational last weekend, we head right into the next tournament—the Housewares Heritage at Muirfield Village. The course plays tough and it’s meandering streams lie in wait to snare your ball, that is, if you don’t lose your ball in the forest of trees that lines the fairway first. Ash returns to tournament competition and takes on binkdog, enderdog, MacTHW and the ‘Marlin in a bid for a championship. These are your headlines for the Housewares Heritage weekend.

Fresh off of his victory at the Yeehaw Invitational, binkdog saunters on down to the tee box with his Texas-style swagger. With only a club grip in hand, he belts out a ‘Yeeeehaaaawww’ and it’s officially game time. binkdog finds himself in a three-way battle, as both enderdog and the 2013 Masters champion give him a run for his money as they all leave Ash and MacTHW behind. MacTHW will have none of that starts a charge along the back. binkdog runs into trouble, as does enderdog, but the ‘Marlin manages to keep it consistent. MacTHW weasels his way to second place, just two strokes behind Marlin.

Round 1:

Due to unknown reasons, be it enderdog’s presence or MacTHW’s awesomeness, the ‘Marlin DNFs during round two, leaving just four golfers to vie for the championship. MacTHW takes full advantage and plays a steady front and back nine, hoping to stay ahead of his rivals. binkdog charges down the back nine and squeaks by enderdog for second place. Ash retains ownership of the caboose, for now. He’s getting it cleaned and waxed in hopes of enderdog’s arrival.

Round 2:

Ash takes off for the evening after round two and the remaining golfers head to Kiawah Ocean for some after-tournament relaxation. binkdog starts out strong but starts to fizzle along the back. MacTHW sets the back nine on fire, coming in at only three over par for the last nine and fourteen over for the entire round. binkdog stays ahead of enderdog, who gets to ride in the newly washed and waxed caboose.

Kiawah:

It’s Moving Day at the Housewares Heritage and three golfers areĀ eager to tear into MacTHW’s lead. binkdog moseys up to the tee box and declares the round underway. binkdog and MacTHW break off into a battle group while Ash and enderdog battle over who gets to ride in the caboose. binkdog holds a one stroke advantage at the turn but gives it up fairly quick as he finds trouble lurking along the back. MacTHW avoids the trees and water as much as possible, a strategy that would pay off in the form of a win in round three.

Round 3:

binkdog finds himself down by seventeen heading into round four. He does what he can to distract MacTHW, hoping to instigate a meltdown like the one seen in round four of the Yeehaw Invitational. MacTHW is having none of it as he looks to avoid another playoff at the Augusta Par 3. It’s full steam ahead as he leads the way into and throughout the back nine. binkdog makes a small charge but it runs out of gas quickly. enderdog does what he can to get in the caboose but Ash forcefully takes command and locks enderdog out of the last railcar.

Round 4:

The final standings after four rounds:

After the tournament, binkdog, enderdog and MacTHW decide to head to TPC Scottsdale and see if someone can take the record, which is currently held by both enderdog and MacTHW together. binkdog and MacTHW are tied after nine but enderdog is lurking close by only two strokes back. binkdog keeps a steady hand as MacTHW loses one stroke and enderdog gains a stroke making for an 82, 83, 84 finish.

Scottsdale:

As enderdog takes off for the evening, binkdog and MacTHW decide to play one more round at the Blue Monster. Things go horribly wrong right away as the two golfers post their worst scores of the evening for a front nine set. It gets better along the back but MacTHW can not seem to dig himself out of the hole he managed to get himself stuck in. binkdog, bent on not losing points, goes on to win the round at Blue Monster, edging out MacTHW by five strokes.

Blue Monster:

After the Heritage tournament, THW Golf has a brief tournament break until the next one, a major, at TPC River Highlands for the ShadeTree Classic on June 21st. Until then, it will be sure to be record hunting time.

Everyone retained their current standings on the leaderboard. Although, thanks to those last two games played, binkdog closes the gap between himself and MacTHW by two points, now within five points of the leader.

MacTHW bettered his previous AVG score by two, going from 92 last week to a 90 this week. enderdog also improved, going from 98 last week to 97 this week. binkdog went in the other direction, averaging 93 this week compared to 92 last week. The overall AVG score per round this weekend is a 98, up two strokes from the previous week.

binkdog and MacTHW are now tied with the same amount of course records held—each holding 9.5 records. MacTHW falls back from 10 to 9.5 thanks to binkdog taking the record at Scottsdale. enderdog and Marlin are each tied at five course each.

Thanks to everyone for partaking in another great THW Golf tournament. The inaugural Housewares Heritage crowns its first champion—MacTHW. He now has one major and one minor under his belt for the season so far. Meanwhile, binkdog is on a slow charge up the leaderboard. Tune in next weekend to see how our golfers fare as they look to set new records or take records away.
