Six competitors take to the field but only three remain standing after four rounds at East Lake for the 2012 Bolt-Action Challenge.
binkdog wins by two strokes over nearest competitor, dude, after the dust settles at East Lake. In what turns out to be the highest drop-out rate in a THW Golf tournament yet, the undulating greens and tricky fairways seemed to take their toll on Ash and enderdog, who bow out after two rounds. PointedMarlin hangs in there for a third but calls it quits after running into the Kinect Buzzsaw. After seeing his nemesis power nap through the third round, binkdog puts the pedal to the metal and makes his way to the clubhouse a victor…beating out dude by two strokes and coming in at an overall score of six over after four rounds. MacTHW finally makes his way to the clubhouse with a disappointing twenty-three over on the scorecard.

From the better late than never department…the invitation poster for the 2012 S-Mart Classic.
With the THW Art Department HQ having re-located to their temporary home, production is ramping up again. First up, the poster for the 2012 S-Mart Classic at Crooked Stick. This tournament hit right as our move began, so time had to be diverted to other resources, mainly lifting heavy stuff into trucks. It’s been over a month since the tournament but the Art Dept really knocks another one out of the park with this one.

enderdog was the defending champion and backed up last year’s win with another spectacular win, retaining his hold on the S-Mart Classic. If you missed it, the headlines for that are here.
Since the poster has been in production for so long, I’ll include a little bit of backstory on this one.
This poster was a tall order to fill…but the ‘Geek totally came through!
When putting together ideas for the poster, I went to Ash and asked what he would like to see. His first words were “I don’t want to be a dog. That’s all I ask”. This is in reference that both binkdog and enderdog have been drawn as dogs in their respective posters. “OK, that’s cool. You won’t be a dog”, I said. Ash then took a sip of his homebrew and elaborated on his thoughts a little further. “I want to be a T-Rex…in a monk’s robe”, explaining that monks have a rich history of brewing beer. “OooooooooK, ummmm, I’ll see what we can do”, I replied. Hmmm. Well. This idea is going to have to ferment for a bit. I had no idea how to tie Army of Darkness, a robe-wearing T-Rex and golf together.
I usually let these things roll around my head for a bit and something eventually falls out. Unfortunately, my head was full of getting moved and there was not room in there for much else, so no ideas were coming to me.
The tournament came and went and there was no poster. This was the first time we missed a poster for a tournament. Then, we missed the poster for the next tournament too. Of course, that tourney hit while we were under a time crunch to get things moved out.
Fast forward to a month later. We finally got our stuff all set up and sat down to resume work. Problem was, no idea had formulated itself in the meantime. The ‘Geek already had the T-Rex drawn and scanned before we broke down the computers at the old place. It just needed to be colored. While she was coloring, I was drawing sketches and throwing ideas up on the virtual wall to see what would stick. The ‘Geek had already brought T-Rex and golf together by drawing the Crooked Stick stick in the T-Rex’s little front paw. Looked damn good.
All I’m missing here is a Army of Darkness tie-in. Army of Darkness has zombies and dead (or un-dead) people in it, not dinosaurs. I went back to our very first poster ever…which just so happened to be for the 2010 S-Mart Classic. The Ash character for that poster was cut out of a background…a dry, desert canyon.
That picture (”This is my BOOMSTICK!”) was the inspiration for the original poster. I ran the idea past the ‘Geek to see what she thought about the background. I knew it would need to be re-created. She thought she could do it. Lo and behold, twenty minutes later she had a rockin’ background for the poster.
Finally, all the pieces had come together. T-Rex, monk robe, golf, Army of Darkness. Check. Check. Check. Check.
I scanned in the original artwork, the ‘Geek did her design magic, and out comes the final product. Booyah!

Shirts are very slow to roll out this year, with the Art Department HQ moving locations. Things are starting to get back on track. Here are the photos from the 2012 THW Greenbrier Classic shirt presentation. enderdog successfully defended last year’s title at Greenbrier and wins the 2012 tournament. Congrats, enderdog. Since camera-shy binkdog was not involved, we have pictures with people in them this time around.

THW Golf is a private online golf league that plays Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Wii. Membership is not open to the public and one must be invited by a current member in order to join. THW Golf was formed during the Tiger Woods 2010 season and provides for a family-friendly environment where known friends can get together and compete in challenging and cheat-free golf sessions. We think that not opening ourselves to the trolls and cheaters and hackers of the greater World Wide Web is key to maintaining that environment.
Although we are closed for public membership, please feel free to check out our stats, headlines, tournaments, promotional videos, and heck, even our by-laws. As you can see, while we may be a small group, we like to think BIG. But more importantly, we like to have FUN.
